I can’t speak for everyone at the Underground Lounge on Sat night, but I for one had a fantastic time. Zach started things off right with a great set of solo material, and he even had a chance to sneak in a few Dollar Store Xylophone tunes. PolyBlack then took it upon themselves to start off the rock with ridiculous guitar work and a solid back-beat. Not bad for their 2nd gig of the night - they played at 6p in Tinley Park before booking it on up to Wrigleyville. Take the Sky put on an amazing performance with sweeping melodic lines and high energy rock. A tough act to follow to be sure!
After a lengthy sound check, we finally got rolling. And once we did, there was no stopping us. By this point, the room had filled up nicely (we had 76 pay at the door for the night - awesome!) and the crowd was bursting with energy. As expected, the covers were huge hit, and Megan slayed “Son of a Preacher Man.” We all agreed that it was pretty much our best run-through of the set ever, and we appreciated the extra space and much improved sound system.
That being said, there’s is room for much improvement. As always, a lack of vocals volume hindered the overall presentation, and tightening up the sound will come through more practice and performance. But overall, we were extremely happy with the entire evening. A big thanks to Dave @ the UL for the bar and the sound, and a huge “you ROCK!” to everyone who came out.
As for the future, we many exciting things planned. We head into the studio Tuesday to continue recording our 1st album, yet to be named. I’ll be hunting for the next gig and I’ll be harassing you all about it when the time comes. We’ll have pics up tonight from the show. Until next time…
